 About myself:

I was raised in Center, Texas and received my degree from SFASU.  I worked one year in Louisiana with 7th graders before coming to Chireno in 1999.  Since then, I have taught every subject offered at the secondary level (grades 8-12) in Social Studies including Genealogy and Local History.  Middle School was my home for the last three years where I taught 5th and 6th grade before returning to the secondary level.  Chireno is where I met another history teacher, Brian King, and we married in 2003 and have two Owls:  Trevin (8th grade) and Samuel (3nd).  I completed my Master’s Degree in History from SFASU in December of 2018.  So this begins my 21st year at this district, I cannot wait to get started!

 My Experience:

For World Geography:  I have traveled solo to the counties of Spain, England, France, Portugal and Costa Rica.  I have also led three different student tours to Europe including the countries of:  Italy, Monaco, Greece, Switzerland, (and again to England and France).  If you add in my own brief stops to Mexico, Canada, Haiti, Saint Martin, Germany, and Puerto Rico then that would make for a wide variety of cultures and experiences that I am able to present to your child.

For U.S. History:  I have led student tours to Washington D.C., Boston, Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown, and New York City.  I have personally been to Philadelphia as well.  All of these stops are included in your child’s TEKS and are the cornerstones for early American History so I am proud to be able to share these with my students.

In 2015--I was awarded Outstanding Teacher of the Humanities by Texas Humanities in Austin.

In 2018--I was awarded the Joe Atkins Public School Educator of the Year award from the East Texas Historical Association.

Thank you for sharing your child with me for this upcoming school year!  If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to ask.  The best (and fastest) way to reach me is through my school
