From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Our athletic events for the end of this week have undergone some scheduling alterations in order to benefit participants involved from all schools. 1) The high school area track meet, originally scheduled to be at Zavalla, will now be at Diboll High School. The 3200m run will kick off the day at 9:30 am with field events beginning 30 minutes later. All running events will begin at the conclusion of the field events. 2) Our Lady Owls softball squad will host Brookeland on Friday afternoon. Strike one is scheduled for 5:00 pm. 3) Our Mighty Owls baseball squad will not play at home Friday afternoon, however. Instead, our young men will travel to Colemesneil where they will battle Brookeland beginning at 4:00 pm. Following that game, we will play Colemesneil. This game will take the place of Saturday's scheduled contest at the same location.

Congratulations to our Lady Owls basketball team on an outstanding season! Our players and coaches never gave up and were able to sustain a rally toward the end of the game last night in Rusk, but came up on the short end of a 53-50 loss to Neches. However, this team is tough, resilient, and will work to make another run toward the state tournament next year. We can't wait to start the journey again.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Our Lady Owls are preparing to begin their playoff journey as they anxiously wait to play the winner of Jonesboro and Milford. However, those two schools have been unable to play due to circumstances beyond their control, which are mostly weather related. Therefore, we have been informed that we may have to wait until late next week before our Lady Owls can play one of these two schools. When game time information becomes available, we will post it as soon as possible. Meanwhile, our Mighty Owls will be in action tonight at Burkeville beginning at 6:00. A win tonight solidifies an outright district championship for our boys. If this happens both boys' and girls' teams will own District 28-1A championships for 2020-2021.

Per Douglass ISD protocol, 80 visiting fans will be allowed in with a ticket and all spectators must wear masks at all times.

The boys' game will immediately follow. This is the final home game for our seniors who have given so much to our basketball programs. Both games will be live streamed as will the Senior Night recognitions. All fans must have a ticket to enter the gym, will be temperature screened, and will be required to wear masks at all times.

However, immediately after the conclusion of that game, the visitors' side will be cleared of all spectators so that up to 30 fans (with boys' game tickets) can enter and watch the next game. Those who do not possess a boys' game ticket will not be allowed back into the gym. Individuals who arrive early for the boys game will not enter the gym until all Chireno fans attending the girls' game have left the gym. Both schools have agreed to these rules to mitigate potential Covid-19 exposure. As a reminder, masks must be worn at all times while in the gym. The first game begins at 5:00 pm.

Chireno Homecoming 2021 is here...Friday, Jan. 29! In order for CISD to be in compliance with Covid-19 mitigation protocols, we will ask that all fans and spectators leave the gym immediately following the conclusion of the boys' varsity game on Friday evening. This is so that CHS Student Council can safely and efficiently prepare the gym for homecoming ceremonies. This will also provide ample time for all individuals who do not have a homecoming ceremony ticket to exit safely. After the gym has been cleared, those who possess a ticket to homecoming ceremonies will be allowed to enter the gym after being temperature screened. It is important to note that basketball game tickets will not be accepted. Only individuals who have tickets to homecoming ceremonies will be allowed inside and all who attend must wear a mask. Parents of seniors will sit on the home side of the gym while parents of underclassmen participating will sit on the visitors' side. Our student council has worked diligently to make tomorrow night a huge success and a one to remember. Welcome home, CHS alumni!

Those games were originally scheduled for a 2:00 pm tip off beginning with the JV game. That game has now been moved back an hour to 3:00 pm with the varsity game to be played immediately afterward.

Immediately afterward, the visitor side will be cleared to allow for San Augustine fans to enter the gym in preparation for the boys' JV game to begin at approximately 6:30. As a COVID-19 mitigating precaution, all attendees for tonight's contests must be temperature screened before entering the gym and masks will be required to be worn properly at all times. From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: High School Basketball information for the upcoming week: Tonight: JV & Varsity girls will begin the season on the road in Teneha. Tip off is set for 5:00pm. Saturday, Nov. 7: HS Boys basketball (JV & Varsity) will scrimmage in Cushing beginning at 2:00. Tuesday, Nov. 10: HS Girls basketball will be in action at home vs. Woden. This will include JV & Varsity beginning at 5:00pm. Four tickets per player will be accepted and the price of admission to those games will be taken at the gate. Home game reminder: all fans entering our gym will be required to have their temperature screened before entering the facility and must wear a mask at all times. Also, on this day, our boys JV & Varsity basketball teams will be scrimmaging in Laneville beginning at 6:00pm. Friday, Nov. 13: Varsity girls will be at home against Martinsville beginning at 5:00pm. Immediately following, the visitor side of the gym will be cleared to allow for San Augustine fans to enter to watch the boys' games. The JV boys game against San Augustine will tip off around 6:30pm with the varsity immediately following. Again, all home game protocols must be followed per Chireno and CDC guidelines.
Breaking News! From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Our Varsity Lady Owls will be in action at Hudson High School this Saturday, Oct. 31. This will be a scrimmage and we are scheduled to play at 10:00, 12:00, and 12:30. Gym capacity will be limited to 50% and all spectators will be required to wear masks.
From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Saturday's basketball scrimmage between the Lady Owls and San Augustine has been cancelled. However, the Lady Owls' Tuesday scrimmage against Huntington is still scheduled to be played at home beginning at 5:00. Players will be given 4 tickets each to be dispersed at their discretion for entrance into the scrimmage. No money will be taken at the gate on Tuesday but in order to be granted entrance into the gym to watch, spectators must possess one of these tickets. Masks will be required at all times. The annual Meet the Owls event is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 5, from 6:00-7:00. Just like protocol for our home basketball games, only four spectators per player, cheerleader, and coach will be allowed to attend and masks must be worn at all times while in the gym. We are excited for the upcoming season and our 20-21 Owls and Lady Owls are ready to play!

Tonight's basketball games against Brookeland mark the final home games for our junior high basketball teams. The girls' game will tip off at 5:00 pm immediately followed by the boys' game. Both contests will be livestreamed on the Chireno ISD facebook page. Please remember that CISD's guidelines and protocols will be in place this evening. Only 4 fans per player, manager, or cheerleader will be allowed inside the gym to watch the games. All spectators will be temperature screened outside the gym and will then enter through their designated entrances on either the east or west sides of the concession area. There will be no concession stand offerings and we ask that only bottled water be brought into the building. No snacks of any kind, soft drinks, sports drinks, or any other type of beverage will be allowed. Fans are to wear a mask at all times and must social distance while sitting in the stands. The battle of Hwy 95 commences this evening with our junior high basketball squads heading north to face Martinsville in the first of a two-night match up. The Pirates and Lady Pirates come to Chireno tomorrow night. Each night will consist of 3 games (2 girls' games and 1 boys' game) with the first game beginning at 4:30 pm. Both schools will be adhering to the same guidelines and protocols for attendance. They include the following: 1)both teams will not have access to locker rooms; 2)Only 4 fans per player, manager, and/or cheerleader will be allowed in to watch the games and each hosting school will keep an accurate count of how many fans have entered; 3)Each spectator attending games will be required to wear a mask or face shield at all times and will be screened for a temperature before entering the gym; 4)Fans will need to social distance to the greatest extent possible when sitting in the stands and sitting in close to proximity to immediate family group is encouraged; 5)The concession stand will not be open; and 6)Only water bottles will be allowed inside the gym to drink. No other types of drink, snacks, or food will be allowed. Livestreaming information for tonight's game at Martinsville has not yet been released but CISD will share that when it becomes available. Attention Junior High Basketball fans: our friends at Douglass ISD have informed us that livestreaming of this evening's basketball games will be found on the Douglass ISD Facebook page. Tip off for the first game is at 4:00pm.
Our junior high basketball teams will be on the road this Friday afternoon against Douglass. The first of four scheduled games will tip off at 4:00pm. The following guidelines and protocols for attendance to these game will be in place: 1) Face coverings and self-screening for all COVID-19 symptoms will be required by all spectators; 2) The Douglass gymnasium will be limited to 50% capacity and social distancing protocols will be enforced; 3) Chireno will be limited to 100 spectators; 4) Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times; 5) Douglass ISD asks that spectators be willing to only attend games that are specific to their student-athlete; and 6) Limited concessions will be available. We hope to provide information regarding live streaming of these games in the days ahead. Chireno junior high players will be providing admission vouchers to family. Those who receive these will need to bring them to the game and show them to Douglass ISD personnel in charge of keeping the gate. Admission prices will be $3 for adults and $2 for students.

Congratulations to our junior high girls and boys teams on their hard earned victories last night over Broaddus! Both schools played hard and represented themselves extremely well on the court. Our junior high squads will be on the road Thursday, Sept. 17, at Big Sandy ISD in Dallardsville. There will be 2 boys games (A & B teams) along with one girls game. Tipoff for the first game is set for 4:30 pm. Per the guidelines and protocols of our friends at Big Sandy ISD, no fans will be allowed inside their gymnasium to watch these games. These guidelines are in place for all teams scheduled to play in Big Sandy. CISD along with all other schools in our junior high zone have agreed to respect and abide by these rules. Due to the severity of Hurricane Laura, CISD will be transitioning into asynchronous at-home learning on Thursday, August 27th and Friday, August 28th. This means, your child will not report to campus in person on these two days. We will switch to remote learning and students have been provided with an assignment to be completed and returned when classes resume on Monday, August 31st to earn attendance credit while school is not open for in-person instruction. There will be no concession stand open. However, spectators will be able to bring drinks and snacks to the games. In response to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Nacogdoches County, our district is taking precautions to keep our student athletes and coaches safe during this time.
