From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: We are proud to announce that Chireno had several players from our softball and baseball teams earn district honors for their play during their season! The following athletes received recognition: District 24-2A Softball District Honors: 1st Team All-District - Payton Johnson, Kenley Purvis, Tatum Turner; 2nd Team All-District - Lacie Boulet, Addison Higginbotham; Honorable Mention - Ireland Linge District 24-2A Baseball District Honors: Co-Defensive MVP - Landon Nash; 1st Team All-District - Camden Nichols, Garrett Sanford; 2nd Team All-District - Caden Higginbotham, Keith Patton; Honorable Mention - Tate Johnson, Benji Blount

Parents of 10th and 11th graders: There will be an informational meeting about dual credit @ 6 and an informational meeting for Junior parents at 6:30 on May 9th in the cafeteria.

Congratulations to Bailey Barrett and Avery Copeland on a successful year of L. O. T. Crew. They were honored today at SFASU during the L. O. T. Crew Convocation.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Our Mighty Owls left it all on the field today but came up short in the best-of-three series against Joaquin. These games were the lasts for seniors Shaden Babbs and Keith Patton. These young men poured their hearts into our baseball program during their fours years in high school and gave Coach Bleile all they had in every game. Congratulations to all of our players and coaches on an outstanding season!

Congratulations to seniors Payton Johnson and Colton Theriot. They were both awarded a $1000 scholarship at the Nacogdoches Fredonia Rotary Club Meeting on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the Fredonia Hotel Ballroom.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: The start of Friday night's baseball game in Shelbyville against Joaquin has been moved up an hour to 5:00 pm. As a reminder, this is Game 1 of a best-of-three series with games 2 & 3 taking place on Saturday beginning at 10:00 am in Shelbyville. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Let's go, Mighty Owls!!

ATTN PARENTS, the 7th/8th grade Parent Meeting has been RESCHEDULED: Attention parents of our current 7th & 8th graders Chireno ISD will have a Parent Night on Monday, May 6, 2024 to learn more about student course selections for the upcoming school year. Students and parents will be given information from our CTE programs to aid in the selection of elective courses for 8th and 9th grade. Instructors and current students from our CTE programs will be on hand to offer guidance and information.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: This is a reminder that athletic physicals are this Friday morning. Athletes who are going into 7th, 9th, and 11th grades are required to have physicals. Coach Zienko needs physical forms filled out and returned to her by tomorrow, Wednesday, May 1.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Congratulations to Briley Sargent and Shea Laskoskie as they claimed the 24-2A district championship in girls' doubles yesterday at the district tennis meet in Nacogdoches! They will now move on to Regionals on May 10-11 at the Franklin High School Tennis Center. Also, congratulations to the following students who advanced to the State UIL Academic meet UT Austin on May 13-15: Trevin King - Regional 3rd place (Informative Speaking); Brielle Theriot - Regional Champion (Editorial Writing); Colton Theriot - Regional Champion (Computer Applications)!

From Chireno ISD: For Immediate Press Release: Chireno ISD will be closed today due to a lack of water supply to the school. Melrose Water will be working to repair the problem throughout the day. Currently, CISD is planning to resume classes tomorrow at regular time. District tennis will take place today at Nacogdoches High School.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Our Mighty Owls will battle the Joaquin Rams in bi-district play in a best-of-three series beginning Friday, May 3, at 6:00 pm. Game 2 will get underway the next morning at 10:00 am. If a third game is necessary, it will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second game. All games will be played at Shelbyville High School. Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for students. The playoff journey begins!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Good luck to our Mighty Owls baseball team as they travel to West Sabine this afternoon to take on the Tigers in the final game of the regular season. First pitch is slated for 6:00 pm. Our young men have cemented second place in district 24-2A and will play the winner of tonight's Gary/Joaquin game in the first round of the playoffs next week. Chireno ISD will announce playoff game information when it becomes available.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: It's a beautiful day for baseball! We hope you will make plans to be at the Chireno baseball field as our Mighty Owls host the West Sabine Tigers in the final home game of the season tonight at 6:00 pm. Our young men are coming off a walk off victory against Colmesneil this past Friday evening and are looking to carry that momentum into another great match up against the current district number one seeded team. This is the final week of the regular season and our boys will be in action tomorrow afternoon in San Augustine and again on Friday afternoon in West Sabine. All games this week are scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm. Playoff time will start soon and when game times and locations become available, we will share that information as soon as possible.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: The softball and baseball games originally scheduled for this afternoon against Colmesneil will not be played. Instead, they will be played tomorrow here at home with the Lady Owls starting at 5:00 pm and the baseball game beginning an hour later at 6:00. This will be Senior Night for our boys as well.

From the Chireno Owls Wire: It is a great day for some softball! Fresh off an exciting come from behind victory over West Sabine this past Saturday, our Lady Owls are riding the positive momentum into today's contest with Zavalla on the home turf. Game time is 5:00 pm. They will be back in action tomorrow here at home against Broaddus. First pitch is also scheduled for 5:00 pm. This will also be our Senior Night. Our baseball team will also be in action tomorrow on the home diamond at 6:00 pm as they host the Broaddus Bulldogs.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Even though the weekend is here, we'll have several students in action this weekend representing Chireno High School. Tomorrow, our UIL One-Act Play will perform "The Cover of Life" at Union Grove High School at the Area round of competition with hopes of advancing to Regionals. Good luck to our cast and crew! Also, our Lady Owls softball team will be in action on the home diamond tomorrow against West Sabine in a rescheduled game from earlier in the week. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm. Let's Go, ladies!!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Due to heavy rainfall overnight and early this morning, today's softball and baseball games with West Sabine have been postponed. The softball game has been rescheduled for this Saturday, April 12, at 1:00. This will be a home game for the Lady Owls. Here at press time, no rescheduled date has been set for the baseball game. When it becomes available, CISD will publish that information.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: What a beautiful day to be at the ball fields! Good luck to our Lady Owls as they host the Woden Lady Eagles this afternoon at 5:00 pm. Our varsity baseball team will host San Augustine beginning at 6:00 pm. The originally scheduled 4:00 JV game will not be played this afternoon.
