Chireno ISD Bond Election: The bond proposal for a new elementary school building will include the demolition of the old cafeteria building, which currently houses the school counselor's office, curriculum/federal programs director, and Art. It will also include the removal of the current elementary building and the maintenance office to make room for facility parking. The proposed elementary building will include the following:
Pre-K through 1st grade core instructional classrooms with attached restrooms
Instructional classrooms for 2nd and 3rd grades
Specialty instructional classrooms for small group instruction, reading intervention, student behavioral intervention, and space for testing
Reception area and administration offices
Nurse's office with separate isolation area
Teacher Workroom
Security Vestibule
Dedicated Storage rooms
New parking lot to serve the elementary school as well as softball & baseball facilities

From Chireno ISD: As Chireno ISD continues to prepare for the May 2, 2026 bond election for a new elementary school, we want to begin sharing information that affects our tax payers. Currently, CISD does not have an I&S (Interest and Sinking) tax rate like many schools currently have. Should this bond proposal pass, it will establish an I&S tax rate of $0.29. However, the average home value in the Chireno school district is appraised at just under $145,000, so many homeowners will not see an increase in school taxes.

Congratulations are also in order for our 21st ranked Mighty Owls as they took down #9 Hawkins early this afternoon in Tenaha by a score of 81-60 in their warmup game. Our district champion Lady Owls defeated Tenaha convincingly and are moving on to the area round of the playoffs. It will be a quick turn around as they will play the Douglass Lady Indians tomorrow night at 6:00 pm at Timpson High School. Our Mighty Owls defeated West Sabine last night to secure the outright 24-2A district championship. Our boys will play a warmup game at Tenaha on Friday at 12:00 pm against Hawkins before they begin their playoff journey. The Mighty Owls' bi-district game will be played on Tuesday, February 24, at Central Heights against Gary. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 pm. It's a great time to be a Chireno Owl!

Our varsity boys will then play following our ceremonies as they hope to close out a district championship season.
