From Chireno ISD: For Immediate Press Release: Chireno ISD has discovered another gas leak that would compromise operations in our school cafeteria. We are in the process of repairing the problem so that it will be safe for students and staff. Therefore, Chireno ISD will be closed today as we work to solve this problem. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause, but the safety our kids, faculty, and staff must prevail as we take this precaution. From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Tuesday's basketball games in Shelbyville have been postponed until Wednesday, January 28. The junior varsity boys will tip things off at 4:30 pm, followed by the varsity girls and varsity boys. The junior varsity girls will have the night off.

From Chireno ISD: For Immediate Press Release: We have been monitoring road conditions in and around the school district this afternoon. While there has been some improvement in several areas, there are still a few roadways and bridges with ice, which would be too treacherous for our buses, employees, parents, and student drivers. Ice that is currently melting will refreeze overnight on these roadways and temperatures are not expected to go above freezing until mid to late morning tomorrow. Safety for all of our stakeholders is of the utmost importance. Therefore, Chireno ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 27. We will evaluate road conditions again tomorrow and share information with you about Wednesday tomorrow afternoon.

Weather forecasts continue to show deteriorating conditions for Sunday and Monday. Notification about the status of classes for Tuesday will be shared during the day on Monday. The safety of our students, faculty, and staff are of the highest priority. Although we all know that weather can be unpredictable in this area, it is certainly looking as though we will receive snow and ice on Saturday and Sunday. A decision regarding classes for Monday will be made and shared on Sunday afternoon. This will be done through the school's mass phone call platform, the school's facebook page, as well as the school website. The local news media will also have this information. Stay safe and warm!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Due to the possibility of inclement weather moving into the area during the late evening hours on Friday, Chireno ISD along with West Sabine ISD have agreed to move Friday's scheduled games up to Thursday, Jan. 23. These games will still be played at West Sabine High School. However, only the varsity teams will play. Our Lady Owls will get underway at 5:00 pm and our boys will play immediately afterward.

Tuesday's home games against Corrigan-Camden will begin at 4:00 pm with the JV boys followed by the varsity girls then the varsity boys. Our JV girls will get back in the action when they lead off a 4-game night in West Sabine on Friday, Jan. 23. Coming off a complete sweep of Woden this past Friday evening, our Lady Owls and Mighty Owls will look to keep the momentum going this week. Our ladies will begin the second round of district this week while our boys will conclude the final two games of the first round. Congratulations to senior guard Garrett Sanford as he has now scored over 1,000 points for his high school career!

These two ladies signed their letter of intent to compete at the collegiate level and will no doubt have bright futures ahead. Both are outstanding competitors, teammates, and students, and we are so proud of how they have represented Chireno throughout their high school careers. Shea will play softball next year at Ouachita Baptist University while Madison will play basketball at Lubbock Christian University. Congratulations, ladies! We are proud of you!
