From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Today's baseball game with Zavalla will not be played and has been ruled a forfeit with the Owls getting the win. Also, there has been a change in the softball playoff schedule for next week. Due to scheduling conflicts within both schools, the Chireno and Wells softball coaches have moved Game 1 to next Friday, May 6, at 6:00 pm. Game 2 will be played the following day on Saturday, May 7, at noon. If necessary, Game 3 will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2. All games will be played at Nacogdoches High School. Finally, good luck to our regional track qualifiers as they compete for a chance to advance to the state track meet. Those athletes are Dacey Coleman (400m dash), Risten Cook (shot put and discus), Brett Rushing (1600m run), Keith Patton (1600m run), and Tayleon Garner (high jump).

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Happy Monday! April is quickly coming to a close, which means post-district activities are about to get underway as teams from all over the state embark on the journey to state level competition. The rain has already affected the softball game originally rescheduled for this afternoon in Colmesneil. This game has now been officially cancelled and will not be made up. Our Lady Owls will now set their sights on the first round of the playoffs and the Lady Pirates from Wells. This will be a best-of-three series beginning next Tuesday, May 3 at 6:00 pm; game 2 will be played on Thursday, May 5 at 6:00 pm; and if necessary, a deciding game played at high noon on Saturday, May 7. All games in this series will be played at Nacogdoches High School. Our baseball squad will play the final two games of the regular season this week. Tomorrow, our young men will travel to Burkeville for a 4:30 game and then conclude with a road game against Zavalla on Friday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm. Stay tuned for first round baseball playoff information. Our regional track qualifiers will be in action this weekend at Webster High School near League City. Good luck to Brett Rushing, Keith Patton, Risten Cook, Tayleon Garner, and Dacey Coleman as they compete for a spot at the state track meet coming up on the campus of UT Austin. We have three students that will travel to San Marcos this weekend for the TAEA VASE State Art Competition. Good luck to Lacie Boulet, Reese Moore, and Jose Recio Cordova as they compete for the top spots throughout the state. Finally, we extend congratulations to the following students as they represented our school extremely well at the Regional UIL Academic Meet at Blinn College this past weekend: Piper Patterson (5th place, Calculator Applications), Trevin King (4th place, Informative Speaking - alternate state qualifier), Emmalee Gray (2nd place, LD Debate - state qualifier), Whitley Johnson (1st place, LD Debate - state qualifier), and the Chireno HS Journalism team (Regional Champions and state qualifiers - Saylor Holloway, Jessica Durrett, and Alaina Goodwin). We have a lot to be excited about as this month comes to a close. Good luck to all our competitors and coaches as we look to keep the momentum rolling!

This week's slate of extracurricular activities is already underway as our regional tennis qualifiers are already competing in Pflugerville this morning. Good luck to those individuals battling at the net and along the baselines! Just as the case has been over the past few weeks, we will keep an eye on potentially threatening weather over the next few days as it pertains to our scheduled athletic events for the early portion of the week. Today, our baseball squad will host Leggett for a second time this season as we get underway on the home diamond at 4:00 pm. Our young men will then travel to Brookeland on Thursday afternoon for two games. On that day, the JV squad will begin at 4:30, while the varsity will throw their first pitch at 7:00 pm. Our Lady Owls will also travel to Brookeland on Thursday for a 5:00 pm game with the Lady Wildcats. Our high school track teams will compete at the district 28-1A track meet this Wednesday in Zavalla. This meet is scheduled to begin at around 9:45 am and conclude at approximately 5:30 pm weather permitting. And finally, our high school One-Act Play will host an encore performance of their play that advanced to the Area round of competition in Waco last weekend. The play is titled "A Rose for Emily" and will be performed in our school cafeteria on Tuesday, April 12, at 6:00 pm. Admission is free.

All 8 young men on the team advanced to Regionals as did Dacey Coleman and Kailey Sowell on the girls' side. In other news, the start time for tonight's baseball game at San Augustine has been moved back to 7:00 pm due to a minor scheduling conflict that was out of both team's control.
