From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Good luck to our varsity teams as they open play in the Gary Tournament this afternoon. Coming off a strong third place showing in the Pine Tree Tournament last weekend, our Lady Owls get underway in Gary's Old Gym at 2:15 pm against Kilgore. Winners of five of the last six games, our boys will play on the same floor at 3:30 pm against West Rusk. Good luck to our players and coaches!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: It's Tuesday...game day! Good luck to our Lady Owls as they host Pineywoods Community Academy this evening. The junior varsity is scheduled to tip things off at 5:00 pm followed by the varsity. Meanwhile, our boys' JV and varsity squads will travel to Frankston this afternoon for two games beginning at 5:00 pm. Good luck to our young men!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: It's game day! Good luck to our Lady Owls as they play Brook Hill on the road this afternoon. This will only be a varsity game and it will tip off at 4:00 pm. This will be our ladies's only game of the week as their game in Timpson scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled. Meanwhile, our JV and varsity Mighty Owls will be at Central tonight beginning at 5:00 pm. They will play again tomorrow in Douglass beginning at 11:00 am. Good luck to our young men!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Due to field conditions, today's junior high softball and baseball games in Brookeland have been cancelled. Both of our teams competed extremely well in their inaugural seasons and the future certainly looks bright for them as they progress into next year. Congratulations to our junior high young men and young ladies on great softball and baseball seasons! Also, on a different note, Tuesday night's Lady Owls' basketball games in Brookeland will not be played. However, our varsity boys' will be hosting the Nacogdoches Dragons junior varsity tomorrow night beginning at 6:00 pm. Both of our varsity teams will be in action this weekend in the Wells tournament. The boys open play on Thursday morning in the old gym at 9:15 against Cushing while the ladies will open their tournament run at 9:15 against Kennard in the new gym.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: It's game day! Good luck to our Lady Owls as they travel north to face Martinsville this evening. The JV will tip things off at 5:00 with the varsity playing immediately afterward. Meanwhile, our boys' varsity squad will get their season underway in Brookeland tonight with a 7:00 start time against the Wildcats. Also, congratulations to Barrett Bennefield as he signed his letter of intent with LSU Shreveport this morning. This young man will be continuing his education next year while competing at the collegiate level as a member of the LSUS bass fishing team. Barrett is an outstanding student in the classroom and has represented Chireno High School with class as an athlete.

Our boys will scrimmage Slocum beginning at 4:30 PM while our Lady Owls will play their first game of the season also against Slocum. Good luck to our players and coaches...the season is here!!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: What a great day it was at Old Settler's Park on Round Rock! Our high school boys' cross country team represented our school proudly as each of them left every ounce of energy out on the course this morning on their way to a 16th place finish overall as a team. Three seniors ran their final race, but the future looks extremely bright as three sophomores and two freshmen return next year. Congratulations to Coach Zienko and Coach Turner for the job they did in preparing these young men for this level of competition. We are looking forward to next year!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: It's a great day to be at the ball fields! Good luck to our junior high softball and baseball teams as they host New Summerfield this afternoon. The first pitches for both games are scheduled for 5:00 PM. A quick update to our high school basketball schedule: our boys will not scrimmage Latexo this Saturday. Instead, the varsity boys will scrimmage Slocum at home on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 4:30 PM. Following the scrimmage, our varsity girls will also host Slocum in their first official game of the season beginning at 6:00 PM. Please be aware that we will be charging admission. Don't forget that on Monday, Nov. 6 will be our annual Meet the Owls evening beginning at 6:00 PM. The junior class will also be selling pulled pork sandwich plates for $10. And finally, good luck to our high school boys Cross Country Team as they leave tomorrow morning for Round Rock where they will compete at the 2A State Cross Country Meet at Old Settler's park on Saturday morning at 10:40 AM. We are ready!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: The junior high softball and baseball games scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 26, against Kennard here at home have been moved back an hour and will now begin at 6:00 PM.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Congratulations to our high school boys' Cross Country team...they are state bound! Our young men finished with an overall 4th place finish at the Regional meet in Huntsville this morning and will now represent Chireno at the State Cross Country meet in Round Rock on November 4. Congratulations to all of our runners who participated at the regional meet and our coaches...it's a great day to be an Owl!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Congratulations to our junior high Lady Owls softball team as they won the district tournament championship this past weekend in Douglass in convincing fashion! They, along with our junior baseball team will be back in action this Thursday afternoon at home against Kennard. Both games are scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM. Also, good luck to our high school cross country runners as they compete at the Region 4 meet on the campus of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville tomorrow. Race times are 10:15 and 10:45. These students have worked extremely hard throughout the season so they are well prepared.

Good luck to both squads as they play their first home games this afternoon beginning at 5:00 PM against Broaddus. Our Lady Owls were victorious in their first outing last week in Douglass and came away with a 9-0 win. Meanwhile, our junior high Mighty Owls came up short to the Indians from Douglass but look to get on track with a win tonight. Both programs will be back in Douglass this weekend for district tournament play. Good luck to both teams!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Although our hallways are quiet this week for fall break, it has been a busy and productive week for our students. Chireno FFA has been well represented at the Nacogdoches County Fair exhibits and animal shows this week. We had several students demonstrate their skills in raising and developing rabbits and chickens earlier in the week. Today, we will be represented well in the ag mechanics competition and in the swine show. Tomorrow, several students will be entered into the goat show with a few showing heifers on Saturday. Good luck and congratulations to our students participating in the annual county fair. They have all done a great job preparing for this week. Congratulations are also in order for our high school cross country runners. Shea Laskoskie will be advancing to regionals with her 7th place finish at the district meet this past Tuesday. Our boys' team brought home the district 24-2A championship and will advance to regionals as a team. The regional meet is scheduled for Oct. 23-24 on the campus of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. And finally, good luck to our junior high softball and baseball teams as they travel to Douglass this afternoon for 5:00 games. Both teams will play in the first ever junior high division softball and baseball games for Chireno and we are excited to see what the future brings for our kids!

Our junior high Lady Owls will play their first game at 3:00 this afternoon against Centerville, while our junior high Mighty Owls will begin play tomorrow evening at 5:10 against Neches.
