From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Good morning and welcome to what we believe will be another outstanding week for our student athletes! We have a few of our students competing in the area track meet at Zavalla on Wednesday for opportunities to advance to Regionals. On Thursday of this week, our high school academic UIL Regional qualifiers will be traveling to Brenham to try their hand at possibly qualifying for state competition to be held later in May on the campus of UT Austin. Our softball team will kick things off for the week when they travel to Woden this afternoon for a 5:00 pm matchup with the Lady Eagles. Our ladies will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon in the final home game of the year as we host Colmesneil. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm. On Friday, our softball team will play West Sabine. This game will begin later than usual as several of our softball players will be returning from Regional UIL academic competition in Brenham. First pitch is now scheduled for 7:00 pm at West Sabine. Our baseball squad will play their initial game of the week tomorrow evening here at home against Colmesneil. This will be a varsity matchup only. Strike one is scheduled for 6:00 pm. On Friday, our young men will play at 6:00 pm in West Sabine. The following day, we will return home to host Broaddus in a late morning contest. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Good morning and welcome to Monday! This week's slate of extracurricular activities is already underway as our regional tennis qualifiers are already competing in Pflugerville this morning. Good luck to those individuals battling at the net and along the baselines! Just as the case has been over the past few weeks, we will keep an eye on potentially threatening weather over the next few days as it pertains to our scheduled athletic events for the early portion of the week. Today, our baseball squad will host Leggett for a second time this season as we get underway on the home diamond at 4:00 pm. Our young men will then travel to Brookeland on Thursday afternoon for two games. On that day, the JV squad will begin at 4:30, while the varsity will throw their first pitch at 7:00 pm. Our Lady Owls will also travel to Brookeland on Thursday for a 5:00 pm game with the Lady Wildcats. Our high school track teams will compete at the district 28-1A track meet this Wednesday in Zavalla. This meet is scheduled to begin at around 9:45 am and conclude at approximately 5:30 pm weather permitting. And finally, our high school One-Act Play will host an encore performance of their play that advanced to the Area round of competition in Waco last weekend. The play is titled "A Rose for Emily" and will be performed in our school cafeteria on Tuesday, April 12, at 6:00 pm. Admission is free.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Happy Friday! There's no better way to celebrate the end of a busy work week than to come and watch our Lady Owls take on Zavalla this afternoon in what is expected to be a rather windy game. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm. We will be recognizing our three senior softball players (Jessica Durrett, Alaina Goodwin, and Morgan Collier) a few minutes before both teams take the field. Our baseball squad has the night off but will host Zavalla at 11:00 am tomorrow. We hope you can make plans to join us and cheer on our teams.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: It appears Mother Nature won out over the fields at Colmesneil this morning. Therefore, today's softball game in Colmesneil has been postponed until a later date. We will announce a make up date and time when that information becomes available.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Congratulations to our Tennis teams on their showing at the district tennis meet yesterday. Our boys are district champs! All 8 young men on the team advanced to Regionals as did Dacey Coleman and Kailey Sowell on the girls' side. In other news, the start time for tonight's baseball game at San Augustine has been moved back to 7:00 pm due to a minor scheduling conflict that was out of both team's control. Here at press time, our Lady Owls are still scheduled to travel to Colmesneil for a 5:00 match up. If weather has an impact on this game, we will announce any changes in plans here on the Chireno Owls Sports Wire.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Since our junior high track athletes have been forced to endure two cancellations over the past two weeks, tomorrow's high school track meet in Zavalla will now also consist of a junior high division. There will be no jumping events or 2400m run in the JH division, but all other events will be conducted. This gives our junior high athletes a chance to gain some experience and compete against other schools in their respective events. Thank you to Zavalla ISD for allowing area junior high students to come and compete tomorrow evening.
