Temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing tonight or tomorrow, making driving too hazardous for our bus drivers, students, faculty, and staff to come to school. Any decision that is made for Wednesday will come tomorrow afternoon.

From Chireno ISD: For Immediate Press Release: Chireno ISD will not hold classes today due to a water line break overnight. We were informed that there was no specific timetable for it's repair, but that it could take up to several hours. We are planning to resume classes tomorrow, Tuesday, Dec. 12. Despite the cancellation of classes today, we are still moving forward with our plans for our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for our new Middle School Building this afternoon at 3:30 pm. All faculty, staff, students, and the community are welcome to come walk through our new building and look at where our students will be holding classes beginning the week we come back from the Christmas Holidays. We will welcome all comers from 3:30-5:30 pm this afternoon.

From Chireno ISD: Chireno ISD is aware of an email circulating through some Texas school districts this morning from someone claiming to be a Russian terrorist. The email contained a bomb threat. We have been notified that the FBI has been investigating this email and have found it to be a hoax. At this time, Chireno ISD has not received this email. However, we are continuing to monitor this situation and will notify proper authorities when or if it becomes necessary. Any further updates that are deemed necessary will be shared with the public as soon as possible.

Both of our teams competed extremely well in their inaugural seasons and the future certainly looks bright for them as they progress into next year. Congratulations to our junior high young men and young ladies on great softball and baseball seasons! Also, on a different note, Tuesday night's Lady Owls' basketball games in Brookeland will not be played. However, our varsity boys' will be hosting the Nacogdoches Dragons junior varsity tomorrow night beginning at 6:00 pm. Both of our varsity teams will be in action this weekend in the Wells tournament. The boys open play on Thursday morning in the old gym at 9:15 against Cushing while the ladies will open their tournament run at 9:15 against Kennard in the new gym.

Meanwhile, our boys' varsity squad will get their season underway in Brookeland tonight with a 7:00 start time against the Wildcats. Also, congratulations to Barrett Bennefield as he signed his letter of intent with LSU Shreveport this morning. This young man will be continuing his education next year while competing at the collegiate level as a member of the LSUS bass fishing team. Barrett is an outstanding student in the classroom and has represented Chireno High School with class as an athlete.

Our high school boys' cross country team represented our school proudly as each of them left every ounce of energy out on the course this morning on their way to a 16th place finish overall as a team. Three seniors ran their final race, but the future looks extremely bright as three sophomores and two freshmen return next year. Congratulations to Coach Zienko and Coach Turner for the job they did in preparing these young men for this level of competition. We are looking forward to next year!

The first pitches for both games are scheduled for 5:00 PM. A quick update to our high school basketball schedule: our boys will not scrimmage Latexo this Saturday. Instead, the varsity boys will scrimmage Slocum at home on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 4:30 PM. Following the scrimmage, our varsity girls will also host Slocum in their first official game of the season beginning at 6:00 PM. Please be aware that we will be charging admission. Don't forget that on Monday, Nov. 6 will be our annual Meet the Owls evening beginning at 6:00 PM. The junior class will also be selling pulled pork sandwich plates for $10.
