From the Chireno Owls Sport Wire: It's game day! We have 3 games on the home court this evening as we host Zavalla. The junior varsity boys tip things off at 5:00 pm followed immediately by the varsity Lady Owls. The varsity boys will cap off the night with an approximate start time of 7:30 pm. We hope you will make plans to come and support our teams as they look to stay undefeated in district play.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: We certainly hope you enjoyed a wonderful Christmas with family and friends and wish only the best for all supporters of Chireno student athletes as we bring in 2022. Perhaps there is no better way to escort the final week of 2021 out in style by cheering on our Lady Owls as they begin play in the Tenaha Holiday Hoops Tournament at 8:30 am Monday morning on the campus of Panola College against the Sabine Lady Cardinals. The tournament is slated to conclude on Wednesday. Our Mighty Owls will play their final non-district game against Wells on the home court this Friday. The junior varsity will begin the 2-game event at 12:00 pm with the varsity to follow.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Good luck to our Mighty Owls and Lady Owls as they travel to take on High Island this afternoon for a 3:00 tilt. On Monday, Dec. 20, our JV and Varsity boys will play on the road at Central. Game time has been moved up to 1:00 pm.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: All games scheduled at Broaddus on Tuesday, Dec. 14, have been canceled. These games will not be rescheduled. So, only the varsity girls and boys will play this week at High Island on Friday beginning at 3:00 pm.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Both of our boys teams will be in action Saturday morning with our JV boys playing at 10:15 in the Nacogdoches High School gym. They were winners over Garrison this afternoon. The varsity boys will play at 10:30 am at the Huntington high school gym. Our opponent is still a mystery here at press time. We also have a slight schedule change for next Friday’s games at High Island. We will only play varsity games with the Lady Owls starting at 3:00. The varsity boys will play immediately after.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Both the girls' and boys' programs will be on full display this weekend. Our JV and Varsity girls will be in action Friday evening as they host Central beginning at 5:00 pm. Our JV boys will be in action in the Nacogdoches JV Tournament Friday (3:00 start) and Saturday depending upon the results of Friday's game. Meanwhile, the varsity boys are participating in the Integra Classic Tournament hosted by Huntington HS. The Mighty Owls will play this evening at 7:30 against Dayton at the Huntington middle school gym and Friday afternoon at 1:30 against Coldspring, also at the middle school gym. Saturday games will depend upon previous results. Please note that there has also been a slight change to the games scheduled at Broaddus on Tuesday, Dec. 14. There will be no JV girls game. So, the JV boys will begin the evening with a 4:30 start. The varsity girls will follow at approximately 6:00 pm while the varsity boys conclude the night with a 7:30 tip off.

Important Message from the CISD school nurse! Head Lice Procedure Head Lice (All Grade Levels) Head lice, although not an illness or a disease, is very common among children and is spread very easily through head-to-head contact during play, sports, or nap time and when children share things like brushes, combs, hats, and headphones. If careful observation indicates that a student has head lice, the school nurse will contact the student’s parent to determine whether the child will need to be picked up from school and to discuss a plan for treatment with an FDA-approved medicated shampoo or cream rinse that may be purchased from any drug or grocery store. After the student has undergone one treatment, the parent should check in with the school nurse to discuss the treatment used. The nurse can also offer additional recommendations, including subsequent treatments and how best to get rid of lice and prevent their return. From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Tonight's boys' games with Brookeland will begin at 5:00 with the JV tipping off first immediately followed by the varsity. Tonight also marks the beginning of district play for our Lady Owls as they host Leggett with a 6:00 pm start. We hope you can make it out this evening and support our teams as they look to keep the winning momentum going!

Our Christmas Program will be December 17, 2021 at 8:30 am. Please look in your child's folder for a flyer with details. Christmas classroom parties for Pk-6 will be immediately following this event. Parents may attend these parties with your child. You may sign your child out as soon as the parties conclude. Reminder that we do dismiss early that day at 12:37. Regular dismissal procedures and times will be followed since this is a Friday.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Congratulations to our Lady Owls for being crowned Tournament Champions this past weekend at West Sabine! They certainly left no doubt who the best team was on their side of the bracket. Our Mighty Owls also brought home the third place trophy after defeating district opponent Leggett in convincing fashion on Saturday afternoon. Both squads will be back in action this week starting on Tuesday evening when our varsity girls will host Leggett beginning at 6:00 pm in the only home game of the night. Both JV and Varsity boys are slated to travel to Brookeland for a 6:00 pm tip off. On Friday, the JV and Varsity Lady Owls will host Central beginning at 5:00 pm. The JV Boys will play in the Nacogdoches JV tournament on Friday and Saturday while the varsity boys will compete in the Huntington HS Integra Classic Tournament this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Currently, our Mighty Owls are scheduled to play two games on Thursday. The first game will tip off at 1:30 against Huntington with the second game to follow at 7:30 against Dayton. On Friday, we will play Coldspring at 1:30 pm. Saturday's tournament schedule will be determined by the outcomes of Thursday and Friday games. From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: both of our varsity basketball teams are coming off impressive wins yesterday as they played in the opening rounds of the West Sabine Tournament. Our ladies defeated Warren and Gary to move into the winners’ bracket and will play at 1:00 today against the winner of Buna/Corrigan Camden. Our Mighty Owls will also play at 1:00 today against Woodville. Good luck to both squads today!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Our Lady Owls and Mighty Owls are coming off strong performances in the Wells Tournament this past weekend and look to continue their momentum this week. We hope you will make plans to come and support our junior varsity and varsity teams as they will be playing on the home court tonight and tomorrow. Our JV girls kick things off tonight at 5:00 pm followed by the varsity girls as our Lady Owls will match up against San Augustine. Our JV boys and varsity boys will host Central beginning at 7:30 pm. On Tuesday, we begin another four-game evening at 2:00 with our JV girls and varsity girls playing host to Timpson. Our junior varsity and varsity Might Owls squads will play Woden beginning at 5:00 pm.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: an adjustment has been made to this evening’s varsity boys game with Nacogdoches JV. This game was originally slated to begin at 5:00 but has been moved back an hour to 6:00 pm.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Happy Monday to all Lady Owl and Might Owl fans! We have a full slate of road games being played Tuesday evening so there will be no shortage of Chireno basketball on display. Our varsity Lady Owls will travel to Evadale for a 5:00 pm game tomorrow evening while our varsity boys will be in action at Nacogdoches HS as they take on the Nacogdoches Dragon JV squad. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 pm. Our junior varsity Mighty Owls will also be on the road in a recently scheduled game at Broaddus beginning at 6:15 pm. Both of the varsity games will be tune ups for the Wells Tournament taking place this weekend. More details about tournament game times will be forthcoming as final brackets become available.

Our Lady Owls will be looking for their first win of the young season as they travel a few miles down the road this evening to square off against the Martinsville Lady Pirates (varsity only) in a 5:30 pm tilt. Our varsity boys will tip off their season tonight at home against Hardin Jefferson. Game time is also at 5:30 pm. We hope you can make it out to one of these venues to support our teams and cheer them on. As we begin the basketball season, it is important to keep in mind UIL rules for live streaming basketball games as it pertains to individual social media accounts. According to UIL rules, any event or contest, athletic or academic, cannot be live-streamed unless it is done through a school’s own social media account and all schools involved provide consent to do so. This rule prohibits any parent, student, community member, faculty, staff or sponsor to broadcast live from any entity of social media or internet streaming including but not limited to Facebook Live, Instagram Live, YouTube, Twitter. Live streaming through an individual account is in direct violation of the UIL Rules and their agreement with their broadcast partners. Therefore, Chireno ISD requests all spectators of events adhere to these rules. Violation of UIL rules could result in forfeiture of an event or sanctions placed on the team and eliminate all the hard work, effort, and accomplishments our students have worked so hard to obtain. Please also be aware that contest venues and opposing school districts may prevent parents from filming athletic or academic contests for personal use as per UIL rules.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: We have scheduling updates for our basketball teams. Tonight's scrimmage at Woden for our Mighty Owls will now begin at 5:00 pm instead of three hours later as originally indicated on the schedule. Both boys' squads will begin their regular season this Friday on the home court against Hardin Jefferson. The ball goes up at 5:30 pm. The Nov. 16 game originally scheduled with East Chambers has been cancelled. That is now an open date for the boys' teams. Lady Owls' scheduling news: Both of our girls' teams will be in action tomorrow evening in Woden beginning at 5:00. On Friday however, only the varsity Lady Owls will play on the road in Martinsville. Tip off is slated for 5:30 pm. Martinsville currently does not have a JV team. And for next week, only the varsity Lady Owls will travel to Evadale on Tuesday, Nov. 16, for a 5:00 pm game.
